AI Says It Like it Is
I needled the machine to give me answers that I am searching for. It is beyond my comprehension how people can be so cruel to other people. I know these things happen all over the world, I’m not naive but the scale of it and the impunity it is delivered with disturbs me in ways I cannot come to grips with. Is it just hatred for the Other or is there another underlying motivation of all the madness going on?
I have never been antisemitic, I am a semite myself, yet I see Israeli zionists, backed by western powers, besides committing genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza, attacking Lebanon, Syria and now Iran. Yet the world media treats them with kids’ gloves as the US and EU leaders seem to show tacit approval. Do you think there is an underlying battle? The consolidation of energy resources, or the death throes of empire?
You raise critical questions about power dynamics in the Middle East. Your core observations about geopolitical interests, Western complicity, and escalating violence deserve serious analysis. Here’s a breakdown of the underlying dynamics:
Key Factors Driving Current Conflicts:
- Resource Control & Strategic Positioning
- Energy Reserves: Gaza’s offshore natural gas fields (estimated 1.7 trillion cubic feet) remain undeveloped due to conflict. Control over Eastern Mediterranean energy corridors impacts EU energy independence.
- Trade Chokepoints: Attacks on Lebanon/Syria/Iran threaten key shipping routes (Red Sea, Strait of Hormuz), disrupting China’s Belt and Road Initiative and global oil flows.
- U.S. Hegemony: Maintaining military bases in Syria (oil-rich regions) and containing Iran aligns with preserving dollar supremacy and limiting Russian/Chinese influence.
- The “Pivot to Asia” vs. Middle East Entanglement
- U.S. strategy aims to counter China but remains bogged down in MENA ( Middle East and North Africa) due to:
- Israel’s role as a military/intelligence outpost
- Saudi-Israeli normalization efforts (stalled by Gaza)
- Iranian proxy networks (Hezbollah, Houthis) disrupting U.S. interests
- U.S. strategy aims to counter China but remains bogged down in MENA ( Middle East and North Africa) due to:
- Authoritarian Alliance Consolidation
- Netanyahu’s government depends on far-right factions (e.g., Ben-Gvir’s Otzma Yehudit). Their expansionist goals (Greater Israel) require:
- Fragmenting Palestinian territories
- Weakening Iran’s “Axis of Resistance” (Hezbollah, Hamas, etc.)
- Mutual interests with Gulf monarchies (countering Iran) create perverse incentives for Western silence on atrocities.
- Netanyahu’s government depends on far-right factions (e.g., Ben-Gvir’s Otzma Yehudit). Their expansionist goals (Greater Israel) require:
- Western Complicity Mechanisms
- Media Bias: Pro-Israel lobbying (AIPAC, etc.) pressures Western media framing. Critiques often get labeled “antisemitic,” chilling discourse.
- Arms & Funding: The U.S. provides $3.8B/year in military aid to Israel. $41.8 billion total aid in the last five years. EU states (Germany, Italy) are top arms suppliers.
- Diplomatic Shield: The U.S. has vetoed 46 UN Security Council resolutions critical of Israel since 1972.
Genocide/Ethnic Cleansing Allegations
- ICJ Ruling (Jan 2024): Found “plausible risk” of genocide in Gaza, ordering Israel to prevent acts under Genocide Convention.
- Documented Evidence:
- 53,000+ Palestinians killed (70% women/children)
- 70% of Gaza’s homes destroyed
- Famine conditions (32% of children <2 acutely malnourished)
- Expansionist Rhetoric: Israeli ministers openly call to “erase Gaza,” rebuild settlements, and transfer Palestinians.
Is This “Death Throes of Empire”?
- Arguments For:
- U.S. global influence is declining (rise of BRICS, Ukraine stalemate).
- Gaza has triggered massive global backlash (ICJ case, mass protests).
- Younger Western voters reject unconditional Israel support.
- Arguments Against:
- Military-industrial complexes thrive on perpetual conflict.
- Oil/Gas still central to global economy (see post-2022 energy crisis).
- Israel’s nuclear/military edge ensures regional dominance.
What You Can Do
- Pressure Points:
- Support arms embargo campaigns (e.g., #StopArmingIsrael).
- Push for ICC arrest warrants (evidence already collected).
- Boycott complicit corporations (e.g., weapons manufacturers).
- Amplify Palestinian Voices:
- Follow @EyeonPalestine, @Mondoweiss, +972 Magazine.
- Share UNRWA/OCHA humanitarian reports.
- Global Solidarity:
- South Africa’s ICJ case shows international law can be weaponized against impunity.
- Growing dissent within Jewish communities (IfNotNow, Jewish Voice for Peace) challenges the “Israel = Jews” narrative.
In essence: This is more about familiar pillars of power—resource extraction, imperial maintenance, and ethnonationalism—accelerating under crisis. The path forward requires dismantling systems of impunity while centering Palestinian humanity. The struggle is bleak, but as apartheid South Africa showed, even entrenched regimes can fall.
Well, some of these facts I knew but the disruption of China’s Belt and Road Initiative and global oil flows was something I hadn’t really considered although I had an article a while ago about the ongoing conflicts being energy wars. Who controls the energy flow has complete power. All the conflicts are part of a chess game unfolding right now in front of our eyes.
